Colorado Soy is a family owned livestock feed company. The company is located north of Stratton, Colorado, near the family farm that was homesteaded in 1917 by the grandfather of the company owner, Lester Hasart. Lester lives on and operates the family farm with his brother, Jerry and their families.
The farm operation in Kit Carson County, Colorado, is located on the state's eastern border and the area is known for its irrigated farming and cattle feeding. In 2001, Hasart was looking to integrate his products into the marketplace; adding value to the products he raised. This lead to the creation of the family owned livestock feed company, Colorado Soy.
Hasart first roasted his soybeans to provide a quality protein source for the cattle in his feedyard. He discovered and appreciated the benefits of the roasted soybeans and began to expand - roasting corn and other grains. By blending feeds to develop balanced rations, a product line was developed for cattle, sheep and other livestock. The business was expanded to an indoor feed mill in 2006 and now roasts grains and mixes rations for everything that eats grain!
Manager, Eric Ziegler, works closely with nutritionists to formulate rations for all uses. The company specializes in high performance show feeds for prize livestock show animals and the list of grand and reserve champions is impressive. The company is most proud of the rate of gain champions, when the contest measures which show animal gained weight the fastest. To win that contest you need a prize animal but also excellent and balanced nutrition from Colorado Soy roasted feeds.
